We keep asking ourselves, "How do we prevent this from ever happening again?"
We certainly won't stop it by applying a forgive-and-forget policy.
I think most of us reading this blog can relate this most easily to raising a child. If the child exhibits anti-social behavior or breaks the "rules" we make the accountable for their actions in order to discourage them from doing it again. Failure to do so; ignoring the bad behavior, only encourages them to not only repeat the action but also to escalated the behavior again and again. It creates, in the long-run a sociopath!
That's where the Republican Party is today. They are (politically at least) sociopaths who have learned that they can be anti-social, unconstitutional, lawless and suffer NO consequences for it.
It's time for some discipline...meted out by the adults in the room.
