(34,189 posts)My parents collected Christmas records from back in the 1960s when some tire store gave away Christmas records every year. Mom had every single one of theirs, plus many more. After the last of their daughters married and moved away from home, they bought a much larger house that had a intercom system.
Dad figured out how to hook his stereo system to the intercom and for Thanksgiving weekend when he thought we should get up - my husband and I would stay with them for the weekend - he'd start playing Christmas songs over the intercom. Then he'd play records all day, every day, all of the weekend. Four days of Christmas music from 8 AM until at least 11 PM, sometimes later.
We once inventoried the records and figured out that if he began playing Christmas albums at 8 AM on Thanksgiving Day and played them for fifteen hours a day, he had enough albums to go through about January 5th.
Finally one summer lightning hit the house and fried his stereo system and the intercom system. It was WONDERFUL! No more Christmas music from dawn till midnight! We could have conversations without having to talk over the holiday music!
He replaced the receiver so he could still play music, but did not replace the turntable. His new receiver came with a CD player so he acquired CDs, but not any Christmas albums. It was heavenly.
