(1,789 posts)44. The New Orleans accent is distinct from southern and Cajun.
It sounds more like Brooklyn than areas that are closer geographically. New York and New Orleans were populated by immigrants from Italy and Ireland at about the same time lending to the similarity. It does sort of incorporate the Cajun dialect as part of a unique speech gumbo. Cajun speech is like an island in the south and New Orleans is a smaller island within that.
And yes, "thoity thoid" sounds like something we would say.
