(4,035 posts)When my sister was in hospice, the day she became unresponsive, we couldn't get hold of him. Turns out he was on a plane flying to the Canary Islands for a vacation. He was there when she passed 11 days later - conveniently claiming that he couldn't travel back because covid hit right then (this was end of Febuary, beginning of March.) However, he had the gall to show up at her funeral the day before Norway was closed down. He didn't kill her, like your spouse's second cousin did their mother, but some of the last words my sister said was about wanting to hit my dad. That revealed the great pain she felt over him not bothering to visit her during her 2.5 year battle with cancer. I haven't forgiven him, and I have gone no contact with him.
My condolences to your MIL. I hope she knows that her cousin's child and child-in-law are not worth keeping in contact with, and should be unceremoniously blocked after the funeral.
