puritanical authoritarianism of the religious right. The latter rationalizes its desire for control in the language of scripture and religiosity with claims of restoring traditional values - The former rationalizes its desire for control in the language of ideology with claims of promoting progressive values. Both claim to be only protecting the young and the vulnerable. Both seek to use force to impose their will on those who would defy them. Both are convinced that their willingess to use force to impose their will is for society's own good.
