for a deeper point, but your analogy brought me back to when I was the parent of a brilliant Weimaraner. He owned whatever room he was in, and it wasn't long before he earned the nickname "The Boss" at our local kennel. From the first time he was kenneled there, he figured out how to release the lock on his cage. On the first morning, he greeted the owner at the door - a surprise indeed. Thinking it was just a fluke, they didn't make any changes for Night #2. The next morning, our baby was again outside his cage, as well as every other dog in the kennel. He had undone all their locks, and was on video doing so.

Smartest animal I've ever seen.
