However, I do think most of their elected politicians are psychopaths to some degree and are deeply brainwashed. They get elected on populism and then stab their voters in the back. Fascist is an appropriate label.

About all we can do is ring-fence their politicians and focus on affecting their voters with good governance. Perhaps some will follow in the footsteps of the Lincoln Project's founders and rebel.

Ideally, the GOP will continue to fracture until their billionaire funders abandon them but I'm not positive that will happen. I've never seen evidence that compassionate conservatism exist as a whole. Greed does, however exist in abundance.
