amputation of my foot. The closest place for me to shop is a convenience store about 8 blocks away. I have about 15 minutes to shop while the bus completes the remainder of the route to the transfer station and then I have about 40 minutes to ride the bus before I get to my apartment. Needless to say, I can't carry much to begin with and of course anything that melts isn't on my shopping list (ice cream is a precious commodity).

Going to the grocery store or liquor store is even worse. From the time I leave the apartment to getting back inside takes about 2.5 hours. I have to remember to leave the apartment with an empty bladder or I won't make it home in time. It usually takes about ten minutes to carry the groceries and my wheelchair up the stairs bumping my butt up the stairs one step at a time. The last time was also quite painful since I had a boil on my butt from sitting on the shower chair.

I wish you the best of luck since I've been in a homeless shelter myself. It provides an education that most people who never had a similar experience can comprehend.
