It's kind of funny in a way, the twists in time. They were terrified of the Bolsheviks and saw nothing wrong with Czarist Russia. They were afraid that if it succeeded the movement would spread. FDR terrified them and they fought bitterly against him. Anybody who told them how to treat their workers was a communist to them. Anybody putting any controls on their money had to be communist. Then came WWII and the enemy of my enemy was my friend. Russia was our ally. Russia took terrible losses in the war. More than any other nation. After that people like McCarthy and other right wingers came along and demonized those who had worked with a nation that had been our ally. While shamelessly making a name for himself he made pariahs of people on heresay, anything for another headline. He even tried to demonize Gen. George Marshall. RWs still thrive on division and hate.
