5. There was some noise made after the 2016 election, if you recall.

I heard news reports that many of those protestors did not vote or were not even registered to vote. And there was at least one sign suggesting a violent act be done to Melania.

I am not trying to be a rabid "both sider". There is no honest, accurate equation between the insurrection of January 6, 2021 and the occasionally unlawful post-election protests of 2016. My point is that there are hypocrites and fools that run the range of ideologies. I myself have been a hypocrite on occasion and a fool many more times. My further point is that anyone who can vote in this country must do so. Dissent is patriotic but voting is a hell of lot more direct. No matter how discouraged you feel about the state of the larger world or your narrow community, if you can vote, do so. You may not get exactly what you want exactly when you want it, but you must declare what you want in the ballot box or you cannot possibly obtain it.

If nothing else, voting earns you the right to complain. If you want to run your mouth about what goes on in this country and you don't vote, you are not just a hypocrite. You are full of shit.
