In reply to the discussion: Catholics control every branch of the government. [View all]FakeNoose
(41,951 posts)21. Not all Catholics are anti-choice (or anti-women)
... especially here in the US, Catholics aren't a monolithic voting bloc that some people seem to think. In the 50s and early 60s, it would have been possible to predict "Catholic" attitudes towards birth control, divorce, pre-marital sex, extra-marital sex, abortion, etc. - but times have changed. Opinions have become nuanced, voting blocs have been fractured.
A person's political views and voting tendencies can no longer be predicted by their religion (or lack thereof), especially when it comes to American Catholics. Many of today's Catholics were raised in that faith, but as adults we barely consider ourselves as part of the church any more. (I put myself in that category, as do many of my friends.)
Just sayin'

I think we are better off with Catholics in every branch than evangelical Southern Baptists.

Lots of kooky priests at seminaries brainwashing priests-to-be to go back to latin masses.

It's just all the graduates of Catholic boys' schools on the Supreme Court that I object to.

I'd think that Harris, Schumer, and McConnell all outrank Leahy in "control" of the Senate
