... based on the Catholic stance against abortion. I believe abortion is wrong (for me), but I also believe it's a woman's right to decide whether or not she wants to be a parent. At the same time there are many liberal/progressive teachings in other areas, including a liberal attitude towards homosexuality for example. If any Catholic got divorced, it used to mean they had to quit the church, but not any more.
It's a wide spectrum of attitudes, and there is more tolerance now that ever before.

I think we are better off with Catholics in every branch than evangelical Southern Baptists.
