We are simply in the trial phase now and the Constitution does not say that an trial before the Senate for someone that has been impeached while they were in office has to end once a person is out office.
If it did then anyone in office like a Senator that was impeached could resign before an impeachment trial was held and then run for office again because they were not convicted.
