5. Usually cashiers will tell the last person in line that the lane will close after them

and then not allow anyone else to get in the line - to avoid just this kind of situation. Not sure why they didn't do that.

But these workers are under incredible stress. We all need to be more thoughtful.

I agree about the child's behavior. Not something I'd brag about ...
