77. Understand your feelings

Because my husband (who will be 73 in 3 weeks & only has SS - no pension - & has serious health issues - lung cancer in both lungs, emphysema, & serious heart problems) & I (I'm 65) have our house here in southern coastal Maine up for sale. As soon as it sells, I will retire (actually quit my job.... no retirement other than SS), we will sell most everything (cars, furniture, etc.) and we are moving to Ireland. I have my Irish citizenship & passport and am eager to go. They have national healthcare & even though they are just beginning to recover from the ravages of the economy, things are looking better in Ireland - at least they care about their citizens . We plan to rent a furnished house on the west coast of Ireland. I've crunched all the numbers & between the proceeds from the sale of our house ($100 - 125K) & our SS (which will not have Medicare premiums deducted nor will we need to purchase a Medicare supplemental policy), we will be able to make it. If we stay in the US, I will have to work until 10 years after I die (I've crunched those numbers, too )

I never really thought that we would leave the US (neither did my hubby), but it's the only way we will survive & hopefully have a few good, relaxing years together in Ireland.
