(3,891 posts)In addition to the stupidity of our fellow citizens, I am furious with the party. They failed to properly prepare the President for the debate, which has made this race a close one. The party failed to take the enemy seriously, they coasted into the debate, and expected to coast through it. I am angry about this, because the first rule should always be to never take anything for granted. Yet, it is obvious that our party took this election for granted.
How do I know this? Simple. Look at the advertisements we have been running? Any issue oriented ads? By issues I don't mean that Romney is a lying tax dodging ass, that is a good issue, but not the only one. I remember elections gone by where they would show a school, and then highlight the party or candidate position on the school. Or they would show a small business, and highlight the party, or candidates position on that business.
Why didn't we have ads ready to roll out the night of the debate co-ordinated with President Obama. "Sir, mention school funding and how we expect to address the issue." Then the next morning everyone wakes up and sees the President saying the words on the news, and then sees and hears the same issue highlighted in an ad. Then we win the debate, and the public support because they KNOW what we think.
Instead, we spent days screaming that Romney Lied, which gives the appearance of scrambling for a theme. Why the hell didn't we have a theme ready? The Republicans damn sure had one ready. The next day they had messages out highlighting Romney's lies like they were sainted truth. They stayed on message, while we scrambled for a message. We finally settled on one, besides Romney lied. We settled on Big Bird. It was the stupidest thing I've ever seen out of a campaign as a positive. Seriously, we are so far off message that it is at least two time zones away.
So instead of pointing to average citizens, and saying this is how the election affects you. Or this is how the issues affect you, and your neighbors, and your towns. We are saying vote for us to save Big Bird. While in the mean time Romney is free to lie to his hearts content, and the Press blasts us for running Big Bird ads. I'm not even talking about the Nazi's on Faux. I'm talking about those we normally quote regularly. Chris Matthews Blasted the Big Bird ads. &feature=player_embedded" target="_blank">The Today show blasted us.
We are running for the Presidency in an election that matters. We are spending tons of money to tell the people how we stand on trivialities, while ignoring the issues that matter. Why aren't we running ads that say President Obama saved our economy by pushing the Stimulus through? Why aren't we showing the bridges built, the roads that were repaired or built? Why aren't we running on the fucking issues?
Yes my fellow citizens are idiots, but so is my party. Because they aren't telling the citizens what they need to know to make informed choices in the election. No wonder they're falling for the Rethugnik crap, we're not telling them anything different. We're not making the point that our way is the best way. All we're doing is screaming that Romney is scum. True, absolutely true, but is that all we have to make our case with?
