(1,569 posts)People just don't vote for VP. Joe needs to focus especially on the "soft" spots in Romney's ideology--the areas where Ryan can't/won't vigorously defend his running mate's positions. Abortion is one, the whole math issue with the budget, tie it into the vagueness and mystery around Romney's tax returns and off-shoring history.
Being very aggressive toward Romney will put Ryan on the defensive, but it won't come off as Joe attacking the hapless dude Romney saddled with the VP nomination. Alternately, hitting at Ryan directly does little good--both Ryan and Romney can (and have) shrugged off Ryan's ideology already. It can also make Joe look like a bully beating up on a younger guy.
I think a couple mocking comments would be great...something along the lines of "Senator Ryan, are you sure that is your ticket's position? We've been in this auditorium for 30 minutes, do you need to call Mitt to see if tonight's positions have changed again? Maybe he could ask how the Tea Party folks like the new "moderate" Mitt, or do they not believe those are his real positions either?
