undermine the Fairness Doctrine. The GOP-controlled Senate held hearings and took testimony, they revealed abuses where the license renewal process wan misused politically to punish enemies of the President (Nixon) and cost stations $50,000. They also took their campaign to schools of journalism and got them to believe that the Fairness Doctrine harmed First Amendment rights.

It's a steep climb, especially since FOX has been touting its evils frequently ever since the began.

But if we could require all media to serve the public interest, that might give us a way to have tools to stop the lying on cable and RW hate-talk radio. Also over social media companies. I'd like to require changes in their algorithms so hate is not served up to them, nor are conspiracy theories.
