I don’t understand why parents that have put their kids in the best private or public schools, can afford to pay for tutors, have a kid that won’t have to work to pay for college, feel that they need to cheat to get their kid placed at a supposedly upper-crust university.

What I learned from college is that the textbooks kids use from university to university are pretty much the same, typically written by the same handful of people. So, send the kid to a good public college, just make sure that the kid is mature enough to handle that critical transition into full adulthood - if not, travel around the world with the kid for a year so that he or she has time to learn other cultures and mature.
