STIR = Secure Telephone Identity Revisited (STIR)
SHAKEN = Signature-based Handling of Asserted Information Using toKENs

This is a method by which Caller ID gets "signed" as legitimate and, thus, can be reliably used for call blocking purposes (i.e., calls with unsigned caller ID can be blocked.)

All of these fake calls from the IRS, light company, Amazon, etc., use forged caller ID which won't be signed.
