I am currently reading Typee by Melville, a fictionalized account of his time in the Marquesas when he jumped ship. He had more than a little to say about the missionaries in the Pacific. Suffice to say, he would find little to disagree with in Twain's accounting.

It's a dense read, but good listening on my commute.
