If someone is being defamed on the basis of stolen data which is alleged to have been found on a suspicious device dropped off at a shop by an unknown person, you can’t figure out why their lawyer might want to talk to that person and ask them if they could review some records?

Yes, the FBI would certainly want evidence of a Russian influence campaign. Duh.

You know what? If you sell a forged Picasso, the FBI is going to want that as evidence too. It doesn’t make it a real Picasso.
