3. Just made it a joke, excuse to show Kerry and Dukakis

They DID use the WaPo article, and talked briefly about how the soup kitchen was upset, and that Ryan's people got a worker to open the locked door for them. But basically, they used it as a set up to show goofy pics of photo-ops gone wrong -- Kerry in a clean suit at the Space Station, Dukakis on his tank ride.

The big difference, of course, is that those may have been photo ops, they weren't outright LIES. Kerry never claimed to be an astronaut, he was merely checking out the ISS; Dukakis never claimed he was driving a tank, a fighting a war, he was just there checking out military equipment. OTOH, Ryan LIED about "helping out" at a soup kitchen...but far be it from the media to point that out.
