An old-timer said to me when I started complaining about possibly losing an election

"You think YOU have it bad? Imagine how we felt in the 50s when Republicans were winning everything and we didn't have a Civil Rights Act, didn't have a Voting Rights Act, half the Black people in the country couldn't vote, we didn't have any Black mayors or senators or congressman and maybe a couple of state legislators. You're sitting here with a black former two-term president, a Black vice president-elect, a president-elect who talks about civil rights ALL the time, Black Congressmen and Congresswomen, Black senators, Black mayors and state legislators all over the country and you're moaning about how bad you have it? You need to be quiet and get to work like we did."
