BUT they are rewarded for guessing, interpreting, evaluating and insinuating according to the "themes" (think influence narratives) their employers and/or the shows they're invited to talk on want pushed. Don't cooperate, you don't get invited back.

I remember a Morning Joe/daytime MSNBC regular thinking he could coax the "panel" into stopping pushing a lie about Hillary (he'd clearly gotten fed up with what he was part of). Wrong. He was blackballed that morning from the entire MSNBC lineup. Poof! Gone!
