(11,949 posts)I eat seafood 3-5 times a week. Mostly fish we catch and locally caught shrimp. I have 3 freezers to keep it all in. Plus the Venison and pork and veggies. And all the frozen soups and gumbo and such. Between November and March I always have oysters in a cooler in the garage. We average Id guess 10 dozen a week. Maybe more. But a whole lot. The wife, a friend and me. Dont eat them in warm months.
Never had a problem and dont worry at home. Im 5 minutes from a hospital. But when we pull the boat to very isolated places on the gulf Im often an hour or much more away. If we had anaphylactic shock there we would be dead. Id happily drop a hundred bucks or so. But 700 is pretty steep for an unlikely chance. Until I heard about people getting the allergy later in life I did not even think about it.
