Corporations who want to maintain their office fiefdoms are going to have to start hustling for green kids right out of school, getting what they're willing to pay for. Those kids will get that job experience and then they, too, will choose "or else."
I never minded long subway commutes in Boston, I read loads of books and knit a lot of sweaters, it was both productive and relaxing time for me. Here in NM, I've lived in dodgy neighborhoods to be within 15 minutes of work. That was good, too.
That work contract that had people commuting a couple of hours to an exurb so they could afford a free standing house with a yard for the rug rats is going to start breaking down. It was an inhumane way to try to live. I'm delighted to see people rebelling against it.
