The problem is that the prosperity under Reagan, the end of the Cold War, and his support for evangelicals made his economic and social policies very popular and gave the GOP too much subsequent sway over American politics, which they retain to this day-- their policies can be reduced to tax cuts, no regulations and regressive social policies.

Trump has added the seeds for a dictatorship in this country: a personal cult, anti-democracy, and flat out lies and propaganda.
