(12,641 posts)I recall reading a few pieces about patients denying they had Covid-19 in the 2nd & 3rd surges but they weren't as frequent as is the case now--the denial, the shock, the regret. It may be because the patients are younger, healthier who are being brought down. It sounds terrible but I've always thought that if the virus started attacking the young, perspectives about vaccination would change.
In fact, I read an article recently about a mother who had refused vaccination and also failed to have her 13-year old daughter vaccinated. The child contracted Covid and was in the hospital struggling to breathe. The mother's reaction was panic and regret.
It's one thing to be contrary or downright stupid about vaccinations for yourself as a adult. But watching a perfectly healthy child take seriously ill, gasping for breath, is a whole different ballgame.
And now we have the right-wing and their mouthpieces doing a sharp U-turn on the vaccination question. Why? Well, because it's their supporters, Trump's supporters being infected and ending up in the hospital. All to own the Libs.
That's a pretty hefty cost. In life and votes.
Maybe the reality of situation, the deadly consequences of vaccine defiance will turn sentiment around. Of course, it's tragic that a deadlier, more contagious version of Covid-19 becomes the clarion call. Equally tragic is the surge's effect on the medically compromised, those who could not be vaccinated through no fault of their own.
This is no longer a problem for seniors, those who were expected to sacrifice their lives on the altar of capitalism. The current round is attacking the strong, the healthy, the young.
The Republican Party and their Orange King own this!
