In reply to the discussion: Biden's epic response to stupid "reporter" [View all]calimary
(91,496 posts)- Already liked him.
- Liked how he worked with then-President Obama, when he was vice president. Always cooperative and helpful and ready to serve. Took on anything Obama asked of him. An excellent, versatile, and generous partner. Obama couldn't have chosen better!
- Liked how he treats his wife, and his family. He's such a gentleman around Dr. Jill. Goes around to open her car door and help her out of the limo, then to offer her his arm and escort her into the venue. Fucking trump never did that. I will NEVER forget how he bolted out of the limo and straight up the steps to meet the Obamas at the White House entrance, on the morning of his "inauguration." Melania had to get herself out of the car, with the traditional gift for this kind of occasion (Tiffany, I believe), and could only watch as the First Man-Baby "there he goes..." trump ignored her completely, and left her to make her way up the steps alone. Biden, on the other hand, treats his wife like he must love her a lot, and you can tell it's sincere. And it's SOOOOOOOOOO nice to see.
- Already liked his resume. A few bumps in there but MAN, minor in the long run especially since he clearly and obviously learned from them. That shows you excellent traits in a possible leader: humility, acceptance if you made a mistake and there's a penalty of some sort, acceptance that you made a mistake and learn from it - and DEMONSTRATE through your behavior that you learned from it. He's certainly done that in public, in the full light of day.
- And he had a wealth of dramatically-relevant experience on several fronts, from his three-dozen-some-odd years in the Senate (1973-2009), plus everything before that. Chaired both the Senate Judiciary and Senate Foreign Relations Committees - that's some experience you can really sink yer teeth into.
- Knew others liked him, too. Nobody's really ever had a bad thing to say about him.
So when Inslee dropped out, I thought Biden was the most realistic choice. That resume couldn't (and still can't) be beat, and it counted for something. Nothing surface or ceremonial. His character is beyond reproach and that's always impressed me. Honorable as can be - almost ridiculously and surprisingly so, considered the rat-bastard he (THANKFULLY!!!) replaced. The consideration with which he treats everyone - just among the "character" things that REALLY count when you've got the most powerful job on the planet. It's the full measure of the man, and for me, he checks all the big boxes.
