In my experience they aren't moving to Montana for the politics. They're moving there because they're having a hard time making it in California and they have family, friends, and resources in Montana; or they've made something California and expect it to go much farther in Montana. I'm sure there are some who are in some way motivated by opposition to progressive politics, but in my experience that's not the norm.
