23. It takes a long time and a good support system

I wasn't able to dump my abusive and toxic father until I was dating my husband.

But, boy do I wish I'd done it much sooner. So much pain that wasn't necessary.

When he died, I felt...nothing except a sense of relief. Now, all of his cousins think I'm an unfeeling monster, because they don't know what kind of man he actually was.
