In reply to the discussion: Retired US general says TFG 'was complicit in the planning' of the January 6 insurrection [View all]NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)24. If saying "Trump" is so distressing, then why talk about politics at all?
I don't think it is juvenile or ridiculous to refuse to speak his name.
Of course it is. If saying "Trump" is so distressing, then why talk about politics at all?
I know that I don't enjoy typing his surname.
Then perhaps DU is not the best place for people who have such delicate sensibilities.
Biden apparently agrees, since he coined the term.
That's an overstatement of a weak justification. Bide doesn't refer to Trump that way. It was a throwaway-line, used once, back in February. Biden doesn't continue to refer to Trump in that manner. It's just something that people have glommed onto and have turned into a trendy fad.
So "TFG" is a small comfort, and not as childish as many others, like Mango Mussolini or Agolf Twitler.
No. They're all equally juvenile.
Here's a helpful tip: If typing t-r-u-m-p is so distressing. How about using something that's more easily understood by ordinary adults... folks who are NOT a part of the cool-kids or "in-crowd". Oh, maybe "DT" or DJT or "45" ... those will allow people to not sully their keyboards and minds, but STILL it has the advantage of being more easily understood by the casual reader.
And using people's actual names has the added benefit of NOT making people feel foolish because they don't get the in-joke... and without having to disrupt the discussion with subthreads like this one.
All I'm saying is that if people want to have adult political conversations with other adults, then everyone be mature enough to deal with their anger, or PTSD from having to look out of a hotel window at the "TRUMP" name on a building... without having to use cryptic nicknames or ever-changing acronyms or other poopy-pants insults. In the race to out-cute each other and playing "follow-the-leader" with these types of trends... it only creates more confusion.

What's wrong with speaking his name? He's not going to appear in a mirror and eat you.

And some of us would just rather not say or type that name if we can avoid it.

What is ridiculous is how you have sunk your teeth into this. Save it for FB.
