12. The only legitimate question would be -- if she felt this way at trials?

Being #6 in women's gymnastics in the US, probably means you are in the top 15 in the world and might be able to compete for a medal in an event or the team competition. So, th elost opportunity for another athlete is the only part sticks out. I remember wathcing the trials and seeing the devastation on the face of #6 -- the first left out athlete.

Athletes know when it is time to walk away. And gymnastics is weird in that it is a pseudo-team sport -- really they compete as individuals but given the limitations on numbers from any given country there is a team aspect. (Kind of like the Australian who is third best at the Australia Olympic trials but had the second best time in the world this year and does not get to compete).
