From a child's perspective, I liked him when I was 10 or 11 and he went to China and made friends with them. We had a lot of social studies lessons on government that spring, when Agnew resigned and Ford became VP. I don't recall thinking it was a big deal. Now I know better.

My dad was a republican and mom was a democrat. They never discussed politics with each other, but they each discussed it with me. My dad called him tricky dicky with pride. He seemed to judge Nixon for getting caught, not for what he did. Mom said he was a power hungry crook.

I felt like things were running smoothly, even though.a president resigned we had a VP ready to take the reigns. I also remember thinking I'd never be a republican!
