(17,463 posts)you have the right mind-set to keep yourself safe, and to help to keep your dad safe.
I was a caretaker for my mom for several years, and her advocate when she went into a nursing home. I visited her nearly every day in the nursing home. I conversed with the staff frequently, got to know them, and made them completely aware of what my expectations were concerning my mom's care. I had a firm discussion with a doctor there who really really messed up with treating my mother. I wasn't rude with the doctor, and I was not threatening, but the doctor "coded" me. Right before security arrived and hauled my ass out of there, I looked at the doctor and said "Make sure this doesn't happen again, because I have recourse just like you have recourse. You don't want me to elevate this to the State, do you"? Her care was fine after that.
I admire how you are handling this.
Keep on keeping on... you're going to be OK. Best wishes to both you and your dad.
I don't ride on elevators anymore either.
