7. It might be contradictory, but I know how they (collectively) feel

It's really true that if 20 years wasn't enough, it was never going to be enough.

But I hate thinking about what's going to happen to the Afghan people now, most especially the women and girls who will either be forced back into the 11th century, and/or beaten, raped or killed just for not having been living in the 11th century before the Taliban got there.

If 2500 hundred troops really were enough to hold back the Taliban (seems hard to believe that few would be -- the Taliban probably could have succeeded before now, they were just patient enough to wait for it to be even easier for them), I think I could support 2500 troops there indefinitely.

But, realistically, if the Taliban though we were going to stay and not leave, the bloodshed and the number of troops needed would go right back up again.
