Alex Murdaugh, whose wife and son were gunned down nearly three months ago in an unsolved case that has received international attention, has been shot and wounded in Hampton County. ... Alex Murdaugh was shot in the head Sept. 4 while changing a tire in Hampton County, according to his attorney, Jim Griffin of the Griffin Davis firm in Columbia. ... Griffin said the shots were fired from a truck that had passed Murdaugh on the road and circled back as he was working on his vehicle.

Griffin said the State Law Enforcement Division, which is investigating the slayings of Alex Murdaugh’s wife and son, has been to the scene of the shooting and to the hospital. ... Tommy Crosby, spokesman for the agency, said the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office has requested the agency investigate a shooting in Hampton County. He would not confirm that Alex Murdaugh was the victim.

Alex Murdaugh’s law firm, PMPED Law Firm, which was founded by Randolph Murdaugh in 1910, issued a statement to The Post and Courier stating it would not have a comment on Sept. 4. ... In addition to the law firm, three generations of Murdaughs served as the region’s top prosecutor, an office they collectively held for more than eight decades.

Alex Murdaugh called 911 the night of June 7 after finding his wife, Maggie, 52, and son, Paul, 22, dead from multiple gunshot wounds near a kennel outside the family’s residence at 4147 Moselle Road. ... No one has been arrested in the crime, despite the Murdaugh family offering a $100,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case. It was unclear Sept. 4 whether Alex Murdaugh’s shooting was related.
