(42,862 posts)This type of political blackmail (ie: "do as I say and give me what I want, or I'll vote third-party'') is the exact type of behavior that needs to be called-out and not tolerated. As I pointed out in an earlier post: "They deserve to be shamed! Not coddled. Not excused. Not given cover."
The reason being that such things only encourage more bad behavior. The SMART parent knows that she can't reward her tantrum-throwing toddler with their choice of a treat from the candy rack, just because he throws a tantrum at the grocery store checkout. The SMART parent understands that to do so only encourages that type of selfish and irresponsible behavior.
As both a mother and an aunt, I've seen my fair share of this type of behavior. I discovered early on that these lessons must be learned early in a child's life so that they don't go through their entire life with a feeling of entitlement. Otherwise, they'll never accept personal responsibility, they'll never learn the meaning of consequences, and they'll always view themselves as "victims" while continuing to blame others.
Nobody wants to put up with disloyal voters who behave like Nellie Olsen (Little House), Veruca Salt (Willie Wonka), or Rhoda Penmark (Bad Seed). Voters that have these types of public temper-tantrums (ie: voting third party) are just as treacherous and incorrigible. They don't need to be coddled, they need a spanking.
