In reply to the discussion: Ann Romney: Mitt's French days like serving in Vietnam because "you’re going outside of yourself" [View all]Victor_c3
(3,557 posts)92. I'm guessing that you have to be about my age
I served in Iraq in 2004-2005 and I currently have a 2 and 4 year old daughters. I'm scared shitless about them finding out who and what I was when I was in Iraq. I don't ever want my kids to find out that I was in the Army - let alone in a war - and realize that I actually shot and killed people.
For your father to tell you anything about the war had to be extremely tough for him. If you don't mind me asking, did he give you any details or stories or did he just say it was hell and remain kind of vague? How did that make you feel about him? Did it, in any way, change your opinion about him?
I really don't know how I'm going to deal with the topic of war with my own kids.
