The wacky outfits are one thing that gets her lots of attention.

Her original embrace of the Green party is a total non-conformist move. Being a non-conformist is a way for her to feel special and get attention. It sets her apart from the crowd.

Now that she's being pressured to conform as a Democrat, she rebels against that. She just can't do something so conformist.

Plus, rebelling against her own party gets her even more attention.
