...the wingers and others of the right-wing persuasion, want to come to a well identified Democrat-centric website to infiltrate, harass and generally do everything they can to muck up the works? I just did not get it. I, like you, HAD AND HAVE NO DESIRE to hang-out at Reich-Wing Underground or Freak Republic. No desire.

And then I the consider the rethuglican approach to elections and governing. It's all about LIMITING: (1) limiting access to who will be able to vote in the elections; and then (2) limiting relevant information: specifically the amount of actual information that is available to the citizenry or degrading it to the point it is damned near useless.

DU is a threat to the strategy of limitation.

DU, like the Democratic Party, is all about getting as many people voting as possible. We know you can only win elections and reform the system IF PEOPLE VOTE. Get Out The Vote is not just a catch phrase at DU, it is one of the highest held tenets.

And second, we are a great resource of Democratic ideas, ideals and INFORMATION. And that's mainly why we are perceived as a threat and worthy of attack. We encourage thought. We encourage discussion. We do not drink the Kool-Aid without first examining the ingredients and consider who served it to us.

To paraphrase the Great Pretender*: they hate us for our free thought and speech. They hate us for our ideals.
