They're not Republicans at all any more. As others said, maybe a type of proto-fascist or actual Fascist party, but not the Republicans of old.

The problem I'm running into with pinning down the Tea Party platforms from up there in New York is apparently there were several -different- tea parties. Some running from the Left and some running from the Right but both using the Tea Party mantle. So there very well may have been left-wing Tea Partiers running using the label that espoused left-wing Populist views, but using a right-wing name.

I'll keep digging, but it's a hell of an anthill to navigate.
