Unlike the former occupant/squatter, Joe Biden came into office with a vision and an agenda to change the course of American policy and repair the damage Trump and his minions had exacted on the body politic. The man has been in office for less than a year and worked feverishly to do just that. Whatever happens in 2022/2024, our president will be working, pushing and enacting a new framework for the benefit of the American people. Not out of vanity or greed or a lust for power but to improve the lives of ordinary American citizens, those who support him and even those who do not.
So we can worry ourselves into nervous nellies, a long, proud Democratic tradition. Or we can support the man, the agenda and work like mad for the next election and the one after that to bring Biden's vision into a full reality.
We're at an inflection point. Will we embrace the future or scurry to our hidey-holes and sing woe is me?
Things will never be perfect in this country or any other because there are no angels on the planet. But we can strive to be better versions of ourselves and inspire others, work for a better future and reject the nihilism of our opponents.
No guarantees, of course. But it's a fight well worth fighting for because the alternative is unthinkable.
