Shine a light on them. That way things that they are ashamed about or should be will get a good airing out and those that they can feel pride in rightfully will be highlighted.

I welcome scrutiny in my life. Those that don't probably have something to hide. (I would like to add that I am not talking about those who have to hide truly innocuous and non injurious activities like a little pot because the LEO's are freaky weird about that shit).
