5. We had a similar incident

when I was about 6-7 (best I can recall), except I wanted to go fishing and dad said no, he was busy or whatever.
My parents just left the keys in all the vehicles and never bothered locking anything.
I never made it to the road, I couldn't see over the dash in the truck and got stuck in a ditch on the property trying to get there.
Dad thought it was funny (I could hear them talking about it later). Mom saw no humor in this whatsoever.
And it is also worth noting that it was the utility truck that I hi-jacked, stick shift and all. It was the one we had the diesel tanks on for field fueling equipment and hauling tools an stuff. I can remember just starting it in first gear and off it went after a bit of lurching.
