who elected Democrats to create the New Deal? It was the weakness and feckless irresponsibility of too many, over decades, that took us all down both times. They didn't react over years of hits until, finally, when the Great Depression bit hard into the middle classes. Then the many bad hurt did what they should have long before.

They weren't so great that people should assume we can't possibly do what they did.
