I think the premise is correct that Obama is going to win. I also think that The Mittster has done NOTHING for the GOP ticket as a whole.
Having SAID that, however, there's one thing that I just can't discount in this all, and that is the pervasive attitude out there--on both sides of the fence--that the nation is best served when at least one branch of the legislature is dominated by the opposition party. I'm scared to death that the voters are gonna stand there and tell pollsters they think Congress sucks, but then they are gonna walk in the voting booth and think "Congress sucks, but MY guy is ok..." and then proceed to vote to re-elect whatever obstructionist asswipe they've had in office for the last few terms. If that happens we are gonna see four more years of the same shit we've just had.
If you've noticed, there are quite a few of the veteran Republican pols out there that have not exactly embraced The Mittster. THOSE are the guys I am most concerned about facing for four more years.
We've been busting hump locally in our Congressional race because we've got a good shot at taking a seat away from the GOP's control. (Look up David Gill, and send him money if any of you can--David is a great guy and he's REAL!) I know that Illinois has a few races that are looking good for a Dem pick up, and I know there are a few more across the country. THOSE are the races to be watching, and THOSE are the ones that can make a huge difference in the long run.
I am scared unto death that the Democrats will see polling that looks good, or they'll see op-eds projecting happiness ahead for the Dem party and then they'll all just sit back and wait for the good times to start while the GOP quietly hangs onto majority in the House or--worse yet--eats away at any Dem seats.
