(26,357 posts)Virtually all of the big religions have this problem - Christians bashing non-Christians, Muslims bashing non-Muslims, but Mormonism takes disrespect of non-members to an unusually high level.
Look at them. Look at the video.
Baptism of the dead. Translation "Oh, the poor dead guy's not a Mormon? We'd better wave a dead chicken and make him a Mormon!"
The secret handshakes. Translation: "Are you one of us? Show the secret handshake! You'd better be one of us, otherwise, you're one of Them. If you're not with us, you're against us!"
Also look at the frantic door-to-door proselytization, the zillions of silly little rules Mormons are expected to follow, the culture of ostracizing people who aren't conforming.
The entire Mormon religion has at its core the assertion that you MUST be Mormon, otherwise, you're a bad person, and to be treated as an enemy. Don't get me started about what they think about atheists like me.
Like I said, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and virtually every other religion in the world has done this (especially certain subgroups in these religions - Wahhabi Muslims and Dominionist Christians, for example, go nuts on disrespecting people outside of their flavor of religion). But Mormonism keeps this concept at its core, and demands its followers disrespect other religions.
That's why Mormonism disturbs me.
