But the catcher for me is, we don't know what his religious bent is... necessarily. That is good. It's vague to me the average American... that's the way I want it. There have been a lot of rumors about his religious leaning and he has referred to himself as being a Christian on occasion, but I don't really know and I haven't seen him practice it in public outside of the ceremonial processes of the President. I also don't want to know what he thinks about religion because it isn't an issue.
Another example, I have met John Huntsman and his wife. He comes from a Mormon background, she is Catholic. But I would have never known that fact if someone hadn't told me. He specifically refuses to confuse his beliefs with his politics and has said so. I can respect that. I wouldn't vote for him but that is not the point.
Mitt Romney is Mormon. He supports it and has not proved to me he does not mix his Mormonism with politics. Quite the contrary. Even though the Mormon church has recently distanced themselves from Mr. Romney, Mr. Romney hasn't distanced himself from the Mormon church.
Personally, I think the Mormon church is more dangerous than some other Christian sects because of it's secrecy and it's history. I won't go any further than that on this point; it's been said to exhaustion on this site and it's not the subject of our conversation. It's my personal experience.
I'm sure that my being an atheist would be a problem for some too, but then I'm not running for president.
